Covid-19 has changed Human Resources Management forever, it has affect people management, employee behaviour and the very environment which includes the small business sector. So as business owners we need to step up in addressing and resolving the HR issues caused by this crisis.
The impact of Covid-19 can be seen the following factors these being:
• Plunging demand for products and services
• Rock-bottom business and consumer confidence
• Economic stagnation / recession
• Labour market volatility in an intricately interconnected world.
Small businesses need to take up the opportunities given to them by both government and other training advisors in Australia that is being offered in this recovery period of COVID-19 through training and development.
What we need to do:
Stage 1: Plan for contingency: HR planning should be up the top of every small business owners list and you should have confidence in contingency planning exercises.
Stage 2: Reform workforce planning: Small Business Owners need to redefine “core employees” and expand the scope of contracting.
Stage 3: Manage skills and expertise: Cross-training of employees and job-enrichment could mark the difference between shutdown and survival. So as a Small Business Owner broadening employee skills, decentralise decision making, and delegate responsibility to optimise workforce performance and minimise overheads.
Stage 4: Redesign jobs: Remote-working can be the new norm in many occupations. Job design should be revisited and employees trained to embrace this reality.
Here at Profit Network Australia we acknowledge and accept that the world has changed and so the way small business undertake there HR should change too and needs to be changed now!
